FAQ
How do I find out if I have the right to be employed in Slovenia?
Draw up your resume by defining three main points:
  • The knowledge of foreign languages. First of all, English or German. In Slovenia, it is absolutely possible to find a job without knowing Slovenian.
  • Education. The easiest way to get a job offer is to have a higher education diploma, at least a bachelor’s degree.
  • Professional experience
  • Like any other employer, Slovenian companies are looking for professionals to develop their business. In Slovenia, new ideas, a new approach to development and entering new markets are highly valued. If you are already here with a residence permit obtained on any basis (for example, study) or know Slovenian, this adds more bonuses to your successful employment.
Where to look for work in Slovenia?
There are state and commercial job websites where you can apply for local jobs and register for a job interview. Write to us if you find links to such websites useful, we will send them to you absolutely for free.
What are the advantages of a residence permit obtained for employment purposes?
Your employment contract and the salary indicated in it are your financial guarantor for the period of residence permit duration. This means that you may not have any additional savings that you are required to show to administrative authorities when applying for a residence permit. Your salary includes contributions for compulsory state health insurance, which are paid by your employer. You accumulate work experience in the EU and make contributions to the pension fund, which subsequently gives you the right to receive a pension in Slovenia. With an open-ended employment contract, it is easier to obtain permanent residence after 5 years of residence in Slovenia.
Can a foreign worker reunite his or her family?
Of course, family reunion is available to all foreigners who have been legally residing in Slovenia for at least 1 year, including those whose residence permit was obtained under an employment contract. Foreign specialists who have received a residence permit under the Blue Card programme do not even need to wait for 1 year of residence. They can reunite their family immediately after receiving the first official residence permit.
