Business Conditions in Slovenia for Obtaining a Residence Permit

Popularity of Slovenia as a business destination and a place where you can find a quality and peaceful life keeps growing among foreigners. The advantage of Slovenia is its favourable geographical position, which provides quick and free access to the countries of Central Europe and the entire EU. This is an important advantage for businessmen who, after registering a company in Slovenia, plan to expand their business to other markets. In addition, Slovenia is one of the world’s safest countries full of natural beauty and routes for healthy lifestyle followers.

The majority of foreigners take a decision to register a company (LLC). However, this step is not enough to complete the immigration procedure. If a foreigner owning a company registered in Slovenia wants to obtain a residence permit for the purpose of employment with this company, he or she must fulfill one of three possible conditions for active business running.

1. Investment in the company’s fixed assets in the amount of at least 50,000 EUR

In the majority of cases, foreigners decide to invest in the company’s fixed assets. The investment amount shall make at least 50,000 EUR. Investments shall be made as part of the company’s activities within the first six months from the date of registration. This is one of the fastest ways to obtain a work and residence permit. Investment in fixed assets means that a company receives all necessary for running an active business (for example, real estate as office facilities, a corporate car, other equipment and items required by the company for successful operation). Once the investment has been made, candidates are eligible to apply for a work and residence permit. This step should also be performed within a 6-month period.

2. Employment of an EU citizen for a period of at least six months

The second option is to employ an EU citizen on a full-time basis for a period of at least six months. Unlike third-country nationals, EU citizens have free access to the labour market. The employing company will have to register employees with social security funds, regularly transfer the necessary taxes and fees, and pay out salaries. The minimum salary rate in Slovenia for 2023 was 1203 EUR before taxes. After six month of employment of an EU citizen, the comany owner can apply for a work and residence permit at the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in his or her country of citizenship.

3. 10,000 EUR of income monthly for six consecutive months

If your company has a bigger turnover, you will be able to apply for a work and residence permit based on the fulfillment of this condition. It means that your company should have an income of 10,000 EUR for at least six consecutive months, and, of course, you should cooperate with real customers. It should be noted that income for each month separately is taken into account and not the total income for six months. Once the company meets this condition, you are eligible to apply for a work and residence permit.
